Mexico has amazing cuisine, and vegetarian and vegan options are available in most locations. In more rural areas, options may be limited due to the traditional use of meat and cheese. Your group leader and local guide will help recommend the best places to eat based on your dietary needs.
We stay in a variety of accommodation throughout the trip, including traditional 4-star Mexican hotels, charming family-owned guesthouses, and a beautiful waterfront resort. Each place is chosen for comfort, style, and local character.
This tour covers a large part of Mexico, so you can expect some early starts and long travel days. Roads can be winding or bumpy, and there may be delays due to traffic or construction. We make these journeys comfortable with private transport and interesting rest stops along the way. Bringing a neck pillow is a good idea for catching up on rest.
International flights to and from Mexico are not included and must be booked separately.
If your tour includes an internal flight, it will be covered as part of the tour package.
You can get a quote for your flights through our flight booking partner here.
An arrival transfer is included in your Mexico tour. Once you’ve booked your flights, just log in to the Manage My Booking area on our website and enter your arrival details.
If you’re arriving early and staying at the tour accommodation, we’ll still arrange your transfer. If you don’t need a pickup, let us know in advance.
A return transfer after the tour is not included, but your group leader can help organise it, along with any onward travel plans.
Pack light. We recommend bringing less than 20 kilograms of luggage, whether it’s a backpack or suitcase. If you’re getting a new backpack, choose one that opens from the side for easy access.
There are laundry facilities during the trip, so you don’t need to overpack.
Important: This tour includes private transport and an internal flight in Mexico with limited space. You’re allowed one large bag and one small day bag only. Extra luggage may incur a storage or transport fee.
If your flight routes through the USA, even if you’re not leaving the airport—most nationalities need an ESTA visa. Please check your eligibility and apply in advance if required.
If you’re a permanent resident of the USA, Canada, UK or Japan, you do not need a tourist visa to enter Mexico. You’ll be granted a stay of 10 to 180 days on arrival. Be sure to ask immigration for the number of days you need and double-check the departure date on your passport stamp to ensure it matches your travel plans.
If you’re flying back from Mexico City after the tour, we suggest booking your return flight after 3:00pm on day 14 to allow time for travel from Cancun. Your group leader can help with any onward travel within Mexico.
We recommend you fly into Mexico City (MEX) at the start of the tour and fly out of Cancun (CUN) at the end. If you need to return to Mexico City, you’ll need to fly from Cancun to Mexico City, this flight takes roughly 2.5 hours.
The tour ends in Playa del Carmen. The nearest airport is Cancun International Airport (CUN), around 1 hour away by taxi or bus.
Yes, you can arrive earlier, and we’ll still pick you up from Mexico City Airport (MEX) as long as you’re staying at our accommodation. You can book and pay for extra nights either with your agent or via the Manage My Booking area.
It’s best to arrive on the first day of the tour, as most travellers land then. While there are no scheduled activities that day, the group usually meets for a welcome dinner around 7pm.
Absolutely! Many travellers on our Mexico tours are solo travellers. It’s one of the best ways to meet new people and make travel buddies for life. We’ll match you in a room with someone of the same gender (usually twin or triple share), so you’re never alone unless you want to be.
Tipping is not required on our tours, but it is a big part of Mexican culture. It’s common to tip in bars, restaurants, and for services like taxi rides. While we cover the costs of local guides and drivers, it’s appreciated if you choose to leave a small tip for great service. Your group leader can advise on typical tip amounts during the trip.
Yes! All of the accommodations on our Mexico tour offer free Wi-Fi. The connection may not always be super fast, but you’ll be able to do basic things like check emails, message friends, or upload your latest travel photos.
We recommend getting a Wise travel currency card, which lets you spend in local currency and avoid foreign exchange fees. You can use it almost everywhere, including ATMs, and add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay. ATMs are available throughout Mexico, though some smaller places may only accept cash.
Yes, Mexico is safe to travel, especially with a guided group like ours. While some areas of Mexico do have issues with crime, our tours focus on safe, beautiful, and popular destinations. Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world, and with the usual common-sense precautions, you’ll feel safe throughout the trip. Travelling with a group and experienced local guides adds extra peace of mind.
The best time to visit Mexico is between December and April, during the dry season. There’s little to no rain and plenty of sunshine—perfect for exploring! From June to November, it’s the rainy season, though it usually only rains in short bursts. Keep in mind that places like Mexico City, Oaxaca, and San Cristobal can get chilly at night between October and April, so pack a jacket. The southern areas like Palenque and Playa del Carmen are warm all year round.
