How big are the groups on this tour?

Groups on this trip usually run between 8 and 14 people, with a maximum of 16 on any departure. Travellers come from all over the world and range in age from 18 into their 40s.

Most people book on their own, so if you are travelling solo you will be in good company from the first evening in Delhi. Booking with a friend or partner? Let us know and we will keep you together.

What is included in the price, and what is not?

Included: 12 nights of accommodation, 17 meals (12 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 4 dinners), every activity on the itinerary, all transport between destinations including the flight from Delhi to Jodhpur on day 3, your airport pick-up when you land in Delhi, and a group leader with you for all 13 days, with local guides along the way.

Not included: international flights, travel insurance, your India visa, the airport drop-off at the end, the meals not listed on the itinerary, drinks and spending money.

How much spending money do I need for this tour?

Because your accommodation, activities, transport and 17 meals are already paid for, most travellers on this trip budget around £300 for the whole 13 days (roughly €350, US$400 or AU$600). That covers the meals that are not included, drinks, shopping and souvenirs.

You can withdraw cash from ATMs at various points along the way. Tipping is not compulsory, but it is very much expected in India, so allow a little extra for it.

How fit do I need to be for this tour?

You do not need to be especially fit, but a reasonable level of fitness helps. There are a few walks up to viewpoints, none of them strenuous, and the days in Delhi, Jodhpur and Jaipur mean plenty of time on your feet around forts, markets and old towns.

Expect some early starts too: sunrise yoga in Pushkar, the morning safari in Ranthambore and sunrise at the Taj Mahal.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all! While our target age is 20-45, what matters most is mindset. If you’re looking for a backpacking-style experience, with hostel-style stays, local transport, and optional evening activities - you’re welcome to join us.

Do I need travel insurance for the tour?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed). You can get a quote and purchase your travel insurance here.

What travel insurance do you recommend?

We highly recommend that you travel with insurance for complete peace of mind. Please click here.

Is there WiFi throughout the trip?

WiFi is available at all accommodations during the trip, but it’s not reliable and we would recommend picking up a local SIM card on arrival if you need to be online.

Is India safe to travel?

Like all countries, appropriate caution is required as a traveller to keep yourself and your belongings safe. Provided you exercise the same caution you would in any other country and remain with the group it is perfectly safe to travel.

How will I access money while I’m away?

We recommend using a Wise travel card. It works in most places and supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. ATMs are widely available, but some places may accept cash only, so it’s good to carry some local currency.

How can I get in touch with my group leader?

For sure! Around 1–2 weeks before your trip, you’ll get a welcome email with a welcome message and more trip info.

Is my money protected?

Absolutely. Your payment is secure. Backpacking Tours is a licensed tour operator in Thailand (TAT Licence No.11/12642), and we use trusted international payment providers. Your booking is safe, and our team is here to support you every step of the way.

What are the passport requirements?

Your passport must have at least six months’ validity and two blank pages. You should also have proof of onward travel.
