Backpacking Colombia is a 9-day small-group trip through 5 stops, from $1,649 per person with a $350 deposit. A Medellín city tour, El Peñol rock and colourful Guatapé, the Cocora Valley hike, a coffee farm and the Rosario Islands. For solo travellers aged 20-45, in groups of 6-20, with 10 meals. Departures run from 11 November 2026.
So worth the cost, the organisation is all done for you but in a way that activities are optional and you have free time too so you don’t feel pressured into anything but everything that is planned is so fun! Finished Colombia with Carolina and got to know so much more about the country than if we’d done it solo!

¡Bienvenidos! Make your way from the airport to the hotel to relax and settle in. Once you’ve shaken off the flight, meet your crew for a welcome dinner and drinks. Share travel stories, clink glasses, and toast to the start of your Colombian adventure. Let the good times roll.
Today we explore Medellín’s incredible transformation. Visit Comuna 13, once one of the city’s most dangerous areas, now known for its street art, music, and community pride. Ride the metro cable for amazing views, stroll vibrant plazas, and finish the day with food, drinks, and maybe a little dancing. Medellín by night hits different.
Get ready to climb literally. We take on the 650 steps of El Peñol Rock for jaw-dropping views over Guatape’s lakes. After snapping the pics, we head into Colombia’s most colourful town. Guatape is packed with charm, painted walls and energy. Explore the streets, grab a bite, and maybe join the local nightlife if you’re feeling the rhythm.
Pack up and hit the road as we travel to Santa Rosa de Cabal, gateway to Los Nevados National Park. Arrive, unwind, and then soak in the region’s famous hot springs. Surrounded by jungle and cascading waterfalls, this evening’s all about relaxation and natural healing.
We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all! While our target age is 20-45, what matters most is mindset. If you’re looking for a backpacking-style experience, with hostel-style stays, local transport, and optional evening activities - you’re welcome to join us.

We recommend using a Wise travel card. It works in most places and supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. ATMs are widely available, but some places may accept cash only, so it’s good to carry some local currency.
